The Department of Physics at the University of Basel, Switzerland, invites applications for a professorship (open rank) in the areas of experimental quantum nanophysics and/or quantum materials. The University of Basel is the home institution of the Swiss Nanoscience Institute (SNI) and of the Swiss National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) "SPIN: Spin Qubits in
Silicon". Candidates at the tenure-track assistant professorship level are particularly encouraged to apply. In exceptional cases, candidates at other levels (associate or full professor) will also be considered.

Your position

The new professor will be expected to conduct an excellent research program and show strong commitment to teaching activities at all levels.

Your profile

We are looking for an outstanding experimentalist with proven expertise in modern quantum condensed matter physics, including but not limited to nanophysics, quantum materials, and topological systems. The requirements include a PhD degree in physics or equivalent and an excellent track record of research achievements and publications in the field. Synergies between the candidate's research plans and the activities of the SNI and the NCCR SPIN are advantageous.

We offer you

The Department of Physics of the University of Basel offers an international and highly collaborative environment for top-level research in the fields of nano and quantum physics as well as cosmology and particle physics. The University of Basel is an equal opportunity and family friendly employer committed to excellence through diversity.

Application / Contact

Applications (a short letter of motivation, a curriculum vitae, a publication list, a statement of research interests, and a teaching statement) should be addressed to Prof. Marcel Mayor, Dean, Faculty of Science, and submitted online as a single pdf via https://biped2.philnat.unibas.ch. In addition, applicants are asked during online submission to provide names of at least three referees to submit confidential letters of reference. Applications from women are particularly welcome.

Screening of complete application files will start on May 15, 2023, and continue until the position is filled.

For informal inquiries please contact the Chair of the Department of Physics, Prof. Philipp Treutlein, philipp.treutlein@clutterunibas.ch. Questions concerning the online application process should be addressed to the Office of the Dean (dekanat-philnat@clutterunibas.ch).
