Bruno Binggeli has worked extensively on the morphology, photometry, and distribution of dwarf galaxies in clusters of galaxies and in the field. The goal of this research is to understand the evolutionary processes that govern the structure of low-mass galaxies, especially dwarf ellipticals, and to provide constraints for theories of Dark Matter, which seems to be the dominant mass component of dwarf galaxies. More recently, the focus of his research interests has shifted to very nearby, resolved stellar systems, and to wide binary stars in the Milky Way Galaxy. His current research project is a search for ultrafaint dwarf galaxies in nearby southern groups of galaxies.
