Visualizing Many Body Quantum States in Magical Flat Bands
Strong correlations and novel many body quantum states emerge when electrons live in flat electronic bands, as exemplified by the discovery of wide range of novel phenomena over the last several decades in quantum Hall systems, as well the very recent discoveries in two-dimensional moiré materials systems. I will describe high-resolution scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy studies that are providing new information to unravel the many body physics of these novel quantum states.
