Using spontaneous discussions, a ping-pong game of creative ideas and intensive calculations, Admir Greljo explores the smallest building blocks of matter and some of the biggest unanswered questions in the universe.

At the age of twelve, a book of physics problems sparked Admir Greljo’s passion for the subject. Today, at the Department of Physics at the University of Basel, he researches one of particle physics’ biggest mysteries: the flavor puzzle. Why are there three generations of elementary particles, and why do their masses differ so greatly?

With his team, Greljo develops models to predict the outcomes of CERN experiments. «Sometimes, students’ questions open up entirely new perspectives for me», he says. His time as a Senior Research Fellow at CERN left a lasting impression: «A unique place with inspiring international collaboration.»
