Swiss Young Physicists' Tournament at the Department of Physics
The Physics Department will host this year's Swiss Young Physicists' Tournament (SYPT) on March 16th and 17th.
The SYPT is a competition for physics enthusiasts from secondary schools all over Switzerland. In the so-called Physics Fights, three teams (each consisting of two to three students) compete against each other. They present and defend their solution to one of the given problems, criticise and discuss the other teams' solutions and review the performance of the other teams. The performance of all three teams is evaluated by a jury. The teams must try to convince both their opponents and the jury of the quality of their scientific work, their results and their understanding of physics.
The winning teams take part in qualifying for the national team to be sent to the IYPT - the international equivalent of the SYPT.
